Books Displayed at the Play Station about Extremely Interested Children

As requested, here is a list of the books about geology and other topics that were displayed on the tables at the Wonder Works play station.

Books about Rocks and Geology

I chose a range of books on these topics, most of them aimed at children and families but a few aimed mostly at extremely interested children and adults. The less technical books are listed first (so the books are not in alphabetic order by author)..

Lionni, L. (1961). On My Beach There Are Many Pebbles. New York: Mulberry Books.

Baylor, B. (1985). Everybody Needs a Rock. New York: Aladdin Paperbacks.

Christian, P. (2000). If You Find a Rock. San Diego: Harcourt.

Murphy, S. J. (2000). Dave’s Down-to-Earth Rock Shop. New York: HarperCollins. (A Mathstart book about classifying.)

Morgan, B. (2005). Nature Activities: Rock and Fossil Hunter. London: DK.

Challoner, J. (1999). Young Scientist Concepts & Projects: Rocks and Minerals. Milwaukee: Gareth Stevens.

Mueller, B., & Gauthier, K. (2006). Lake Michigan Rock Picker’s Guide. Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press.

Frankie, W. (2004). Guide to Rocks and Minerals of Illinois. Geoscience Education Series 16. Champaign: Illinois State Geological Survey.

Books about Children’s Collections

These are both general works for children about what, why, and how to collect things.

Hubley, D., & Hubley, M. (2002) Kids Collect: Amazing Collections for Fun, Crafts, and Science Fair Projects. St.  Augustine, FL: Bluefish Bay Publishing.

Kuch, K. D. (1997). The Incredible Collection Book: How to Start Your Own Collection for Fun and Profit! Los Angeles: Lowell House Juvenile.

A Book about Nerds

Anderegg, D. (2007). Nerds: Who They Are and Why We Need More of Them. NewYork: Jeremy P. Tarcher/Penguin. Go here to read a short, illustrated article that Anderegg wrote about a more version of this book (published in 2011).
